The Gulf Cooperation Council Region: a study on the integration of their stock market
Most of the research done on this topic is more related to the correlation and efficiency of stock markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries individually and collectively. As so far the main drawback for a unified stock market has been the consequences suffered by the Euro zone after the Global Financial Crisis. In this project, I will explore the idea of implementing a cross border stock market integration of the GCC markets. In particular, I will focus on a stock exchange that integrates the equity markets of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain markets and does not compromise their independence and regulatory autonomy. A proposed exchange that follows in the path of the Mercado Integrado Latinoamericano (MILA) which integrated the equity markets of Colombia, Peru, and Chile.
